Task 1 - Maps
The maps show how the town of Shipsmouth developed between 1995 and 2010. Overall, the town underwent significant modernization, marked by new residential, recreational, and transport developments.
In 1995, Shipsmouth was a relatively undeveloped area with limited housing and basic infrastructure. There were two small cottages in the east, located near a church. In the southwest, there was a factory located by the waterfront and a beach. A highway ran through the city centre, and a single train station stood in the south. Both the northwest and southeast corners were occupied by trees and greenery.
By 2010, the town had developed significantly. The church to the northwest of the city centre was converted into a pub, while the cottages in the east were demolished to make way for new skyscrapers. The green areas in the northwest and southeast were cleared to construct apartment blocks and an airport, respectively. The waterfront factory was replaced by a shopping centre, and a new football stadium was built to the west of the southern station. Additionally, a new train station was added to the north of the city centre, and the central highway was converted into a pedestrian-only zone, limiting car access and improving walkability.
