The way we label time likely influences our state of mind.
Sample: 1 645 participants.
Some participants (1500 people) were asked to share associations evoked by different names for time spent alone, such as "me-time" or "isolation". A smaller group of participants (145 people) were instructed to spend 30 minutes alone without social activity (e.g., social media), but this time was labeled either as "me-time" or "isolation".
Shown: if alone time is labeled as "me-time", it is evaluated more positively and desirably compared to when it is labeled as "isolation". If a participant spent 30 minutes alone and it was labeled as "me-time", positive experiences increased while negative ones decreased. If this time was labeled as "isolation", negative experiences decreased, but so did positive ones.
