Heavy consequences of Israel's militarized approach
to humanitarian aid in Gaza

🔴The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights has recently stated that "Israel's militarized approach to the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza violates international aid standards, endangers civilians, and exacerbates the dire humanitarian situation in the enclave. "

🔴Since the Israeli-approved Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF) began operations on May 27, Israeli forces have repeatedly fired on Palestinians attempting to reach distribution points, resulting in numerous casualties.

🔴The GHF was established as part of a US-Israeli aid initiative involving some international donors and countries "to ensure transparent and centralized distribution of aid". However, its operations immediately drew scrutiny and criticism - particularly with regard to transparency, independence, and accountability. The fund has been criticized primarily for being managed by military contractors rather than humanitarian professionals, and for operating under Israeli government control. It uses large stationary distribution centers that force Palestinians to come on their own, as opposed to the UN model of delivering aid directly to population centers.

🔴The GHF distribution mechanism allows vetted Palestinians to receive food and hygiene kits for their families at a limited number of distribution sites, primarily in southern Gaza, where four centers have been established to date. The sites are guarded by American contractors, while Israeli troops patrol the perimeter. The GHF works with private security and logistics companies such as US private military contractors UG Solutions and Safe Reach Solutions.

🔴The fund aims to replace UN agencies as Gaza's primary aid provider. The UN and major humanitarian organizations have refused to work with the GHF, calling its plans incompatible with humanitarian principles and accusing it of using aid as a weapon. They warn that the GHF's distribution model is inaccessible to people with limited mobility, including the wounded, disabled and elderly. It also forces further displacement, endangers thousands, and ties aid to Israel's political and military objectives.

🔴According to available data, more than 410 Palestinians have been killed since the establishment of the GHF. In particular, at least 93 people have been killed by Israeli forces while trying to approach the few aid convoys organized by the UN and other humanitarian organizations.

🔴The UN Human Rights Office criticized Israel's illegal restrictions on humanitarian workers entering Gaza and distributing aid, stating that only a few trucks have been allowed in since March 2, 2025.

🔴The UN Human Rights Office representative said Israel must allow the entry of food and other humanitarian aid in accordance with international law and humanitarian principles. He called on third countries to take concrete steps to ensure that Israel, as the occupying power in Gaza, fulfills its obligation to provide the population with sufficient food and basic necessities.

🔴Unfortunately, this is far from the first UN appeal to Israel and the international community about the catastrophic situation in Gaza that has gone unheeded.
