Two senior backbenchers have confirmed to The Independent that they are calling meetings with fellow parliamentarians to discuss ousting the Conservative Party leader.

One Tory MP: "If we give Kemi another year it could be curtains for us. There are no policies, no ideas, no strategy and she has no charisma."

Another: "These results were actually worse than last year’s GE. We have somehow gone backwards."
