🇷🇺 Excerpts from the opening remarks delivered by H.E. Dr. Alexey Skosyrev, Russian Ambassador to Manama, at the concert on the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory:
💬 I would like to congratulate you on the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet People and the Allies in the World War II in Europe. In Russia, as you may know, the events of those days are better known as the Great Patriotic War. […] And I also want to extend my sincerest gratitude to you for coming today to honor the sacrifice of all the heroes who fought not only for the freedom, independence, and bright future of our country, but for the sake of humanity as a whole. As we say back at home, the deeds of our forefathers are immortal, the memory of them is eternal;
💬 Unfortunately, […] the further we move from May 9, 1945, the more persistent are the attempts to politicize and rewrite history, to whitewash the crimes of the Nazis. Once again we see the parades under the SS-banners in certain European towns. Once again our brave soldiers have to burn the tanks from Germany with Nazi eagles and crosses on their armor at the Western borders of our country;
💬 It’s important to note that the majority of the world […] understand the significance of the date, share our feelings and recognize the role of the Soviet Union in bringing peace and liberty to Europe and beyond. The attendance of the Victory Parade in Moscow by the leaders of 27 nations from around the globe shows that clearly. And it’s particularly heartwarming for me personally that the Kingdom of Bahrain – my current station - is also among the states that express their solidarity with us on this blessed occasion, as indicated by the cable sent yesterday by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to His Excellency President Vladimir Putin […].
