Answer to Q148

The side of a square is 2 cm. Semicircles are constructed on two sides of the square. What is the area of the whole figure?

The area of the whole figure will be = the area of the square + (2 x the area of semicircle)

This is same as = the area of the square + the area of a circle.

Area of the square = L x B = 2 x 2 = 4 cm²

Area of a circle = πr²
The side of the square is 2cm which means the diameter of the circle is also 2cm, that makes the radius 1cm

Area of the circle = π x 1² = πcm²

So, the area of the figure = 4 cm² + π cm² = (4 + π) cm²

Answer: (4 + π) cm²
