آیلتس زیر نظر کدام سازمان است؟
آزمون IELTS در سال ۱۹۸۹ با همکاری سه سازمان انگلیسی و استرالیایی تالیف شده و شروع به اجرا شد.

کنسولگری بریتانیا (The British Council)
دپارتمان امتحانات و ارزیابی زبان انگلیسی دانشگاه کمبریج (Cambridge Assessment English)

I’m going to talk about oak trees, and I’ll also describe a specific example of a famous oak tree called the Major Oak. This is a huge tree in Sherwood Forest. It’s thought to be around 1000 years old, and I’d say that it’s the most impressive tree that I’ve ever seen.
@IELTSStrategies2018
Oaks are very common in England; they can be seen in fields and areas of woodland in the countryside, but they are also commonly found in parks and gardens in towns and cities. The Major Oak is in Sherwood Forest, which is near Nottingham. It stands out from the other oak trees because its trunk and branches are so wide and thick.

The wood from oak trees is used to make furniture; for example, I have an oak table, wardrobe and various other pieces of oak furniture at home. Oak is a strong and reliable wood that has traditionally been used in construction, for beams and other parts of the framework of houses and other buildings. The Major Oak obviously hasn’t been used in this way; it’s a tourist attraction that people visit and marvel at. For example, I went to see it on a school trip as a child.

The oak tree is important in England because it symbolises history, strength and reliability – probably because of its traditional role in construction. The Major Oak is famous for a completely different reason: it was supposedly Robin Hood’s hideout, so it has a kind of legendary or mythical status because of the stories that are associated with it. For this reason, and because of its age and unusual size, the Major Oak has become known as Britain’s favourite tree.
True, false, not given: Benefits of exercise
Read the following excerpt from a passage about the benefits of exercise.

In a recent study published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, researchers looked at 10 pairs of male identical twins in their 30s. Each twin was similar to his brother in most ways, right down to their eating habits—except that one in each pair had stopped exercising regularly in adulthood.

Despite the fact that the less active twins had the exact same DNA as their fit brothers, after just three sedentary years, they had begun to develop insulin resistance (a precursor to diabetes), had more body fat and lower endurance—and, perhaps most notably, had less grey matter in the brain regions responsible for motor control and coordination. While the study was small, it is evidence that exercise may have as large an effect on your health as your genes do.
Are the following statements true, false, or not given?

The twins in the study were very similar, but they had different diets.
The fitter twins had less body fat than their brothers.
The less active twins performed badly in tests of coordination.
The size of the study means that no conclusions can be drawn.
Answers:
1. False
They didn’t have different diets – their eating habits were similar. The only difference was in the amount of exercise that they did.

2. True
The less active twins had more body fat, so the fitter twins therefore had less body fat.

3. Not given
No information about any tests.

4. False
Conclusions are drawn in the article: it is evidence that exercise may have as large an effect on your health as your genes do.
Writing Task 1: How to use the 20 minutes
You have 20 minutes for task 1, so try spending 5 minutes on each paragraph. This might help you to organise your time better.

First 5 minutes
Read the question, make sure you understand the chart, highlight key information, then write your introduction by paraphrasing the question.

Second 5 minutes
Look at the chart and try to find 2 general points. Don’t look at specific details; look for “the big picture”. Write 2 sentences summarising the information.

Final 10 minutes
Describe specific details. Try to break this part into 2 paragraphs because it looks better. You could spend 5 minutes on each paragraph. Aim to write 3 sentences for each paragraph.
